SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Test Screening Reactions Are "Overwhelmingly Positive"
It looks like Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already making a strong impression. Early test screenings for the next chapter in the Spider-Man saga have taken place, and the first wave of reactions is starting to circulate online.
While it’s still early days, what we’re hearing paints a pretty promising picture for where Peter Parker’s story is headed next.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton recently confirmed that these screenings happened and shared that he walked away feeling good about how audiences responded.
He also offered a bit of insight into the emotional core of the film, saying it’s “a movie about relearning how to connect with people. I'm really excited to put it out in the world right now."
Of course, filmmakers are usually supportive of their own work, but according to YouTube movie personality John Campea, the feedback coming out of these screenings wasn’t just good, it exceeded expectations, describing it as "beyond excellent."
On top of that, scooper MTTSH reported hearing that reactions were "overwhelmingly positive."
Now, it’s worth keeping things in perspective. These screenings involve a relatively small audience, so this isn’t a guaranteed preview of how everyone will feel once the movie releases. Still, early reactions like this tend to vary quite a bit, so hearing such consistently strong praise is definitely notable.
Test screenings also serve a practical purpose. Studios use them to fine-tune the final cut, whether that means adjusting tone, pacing, or character moments.
Tom Holland previously mentioned that upcoming reshoots would lean into adding more humor and further developing a specific character’s arc, which suggests the team is polishing something that’s already landing well.
Story-wise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day pushes Peter Parker into unfamiliar territory. Set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter is now fully on his own, with the world having forgotten who he is. He’s committed himself entirely to being Spider-Man, protecting a city that no longer knows the person behind the mask.
That isolation comes at a cost. As new threats emerge and pressure builds, Peter begins to experience a strange physical transformation that could put everything at risk.
The film also stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. The script comes from Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, with production led by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O'Connor.
There’s still a long road before audiences get to see the finished product, but based on these early reactions, Spider-Man: Brand New Day might be swinging in with more confidence than expected.
The film hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
