SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Trailer Might Be Hiding Major Characters, and Fans Are Already Digging In

Marvel fans have started picking apart the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it looks like we might be dealing with another classic case of Marvel misdirection.

If you remember how Spider-Man: No Way Home handled its marketing, you already know the studio isn’t above tweaking footage to keep big reveals under wraps.

This time, it’s a cool action shot that has everyone talking.

In the trailer, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man swings headfirst into a group of ninjas tied to The Hand. On the surface, it’s a very cool-looking moment. But fans quickly noticed something feels… off.

There’s a noticeable amount of empty space in the frame, and even stranger, several of the ninjas appear to be facing off with characters who aren’t visible, and the internet wasted no time calling it out.

Personally, I like the idea of just Spider-Man taking on all these ninjas alone, so I’d be fine with their not being any other characters involved.

Of course, longtime Marvel watchers have seen this trick before. When No Way Home was gearing up for release, trailers famously removed Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire from key shots to preserve the surprise of their return.

One shot even slipped through with the Lizard reacting to an invisible hit, which later turned out to be one of the missing Spider-Men.

So naturally, speculation is running wild about who might be digitally erased from Brand New Day.

There are a few names that keep popping up. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is one of the more obvious guesses. While we see Bruce Banner in the trailer, Hulk is nowhere to be seen. Then there’s Sadie Sink, whose mystery role hasn’t been fully revealed yet and could easily be tied to whatever is happening in that fight scene.

Some fans are going even deeper into Marvel lore, throwing out the idea of the Punisher showing up in a War Machine-style armor inspired by the comics. Others are holding out hope that Daredevil could step in, especially given The Hand’s strong connection to his corner of the Marvel universe.

At this point, it’s all speculation, but the visual evidence in that scene is hard to ignore.

What we do know for sure is where Peter Parker is in his life when this story picks up. The official synopsis reads:

"Four years have passed since the events of 'No Way Home,' and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves.

“Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he's devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced."

Peter is isolated, fully committed to being Spider-Man, and possibly heading toward something much darker and more intense.

If Marvel is already scrubbing characters out of trailers, it suggests they’re guarding some pretty big surprises. Whether it’s a heavyweight Avenger, a street-level ally, or a totally unexpected wildcard, there may be more happening in that fight scene than we’re being shown.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
