SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY TV Spot Has the Punisher Hoping Someone Else Deals With the Hulk
With just over two weeks to go before Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters, Marvel has dropped a pair of new TV spots that deliver exactly the kind of fun mix fans have been hoping for.
One leans into explosive superhero action with Spider-Man, The Punisher, and The Hulk, while the other reminds us that Peter Parker's life can be just as awkward as it is heroic.
The standout moment comes from a fun exchange between Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle and Spider-Man. Even The Punisher has limits, and going toe-to-toe with The Hulk apparently crosses the line.
Instead of taking on the Green Goliath himself, Frank suggests that Spidey "contain" Hulk while he goes after the "source" responsible for what's happening.
That little detail could end up being more important than it first appears. If Bruce Banner is being manipulated or controlled, it would explain why Frank is focused on tracking down whoever is pulling the strings instead of trying to overpower an angry Hulk.
It also lines up with rumors that The Punisher's mission in Spider-Man: Brand New Day somehow ties into Sadie Sink's mysterious character.
The footage also features a great action beat with Spider-Man swinging into battle against Hulk while using a web line to drag Frank Castle along for the ride. Castle unloads a barrage of bullets into the Jade Giant, but as you'd probably expect, they don't seem to accomplish much.
The second TV spot shifts gears and plays up the movie's lighter side. Peter is wearing a hospital gown as he's about to get a shot in front of a group of schoolchildren.
Unfortunately for whoever is holding the syringe, Spider-Man's evolving powers have made his skin impossible to pierce, turning what should've been a routine injection into an awkward spectacle.
There's also an interesting change from the first trailer. This time, it's a young girl delivering the line about "spiders have three life cycles." In the original teaser, that dialogue came from Keith David.
That could mean the actor was brought in specifically for trailer narration rather than playing an actual character in the film.
With San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner, all signs continue to point toward Spider-Man: Brand New Day making an appearance during Marvel Studios' expected Hall H presentation. If that happens, there's a good chance fans will finally get one last full trailer before the movie hits theaters.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, “it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.
But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them."
The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31.
