SPIDER-MAN Director Jon Watts Rumored to Helm a New STAR WARS Series for Disney+

Jon Watts, the director of Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man trilogy, may be embarking on an adventure in a galaxy far far away. The filmmaker is reportedly going to be directing a new live-action Star Wars series for Disney+.

The news comes from Production Weekley and a report from Discussing Film. The untitled project has the working titled Grammer Rodeo, it will go into production this summer, and it’s reported that Watts will be directing at least one episode. Jon Favreau is also said to be an executive producer on the project.

As for what Star Wars project might be, Collider reports that it will be an episode of that series based on Star Wars: The High Republic that is being aimed at a younger audience.

The series was previously described as “Stranger Things in space.” It was reported that the Disney+ show would feature actors ranging from pre-teens to teenagers. The High Republic era is set 200 years prior to the events of the prequel trilogy and has been the subject of several books and comics.

We don’t know much more about the series beyond that. Watts has done a fantastic job with the Spider-Man franchise, and he’s also set to direct Fantastic Four for Marvel as well. It’ll be fun to see him step into the world of Star Wars and get to play in that sandbox.
