SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Director Says He Painted Himself Into a Corner with the Ending of the Film

Spider-Man: Far From Home ended in a way that fans were not expecting at all. It was a pretty big shock, and now we’re all left wondering how the story is going to move forward! I talked about the ending of the film already and what it could mean for the future of Spider-Man and the MCU. You can read that here if you want.

Now director Jon Watts is addressing the shocking ending of the film and if you haven’t seen the movie yet…

In Spider-Man: Far From Home's mid-credits scene, Spider-Man’s secret identity of Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is revealed to the world thanks to a cleverly edited video that was recorded by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) as he was dying. That video was shared by J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) and TheDailyBugle.net.

Spider-Man sees this all playing out on a big video screen in New York City, and he’s left freaking out. This was seriously one hell of a crazy cliffhanger! When talking to ScreenRant about this ending, the director said he painted himself into a corner:

"You get to see Peter reveal his identity to the world in Civil War. I’m going to have to do that homework too now, I’ve sort of painted myself in the corner. I gotta go back to the archive."

I’m sure the director know exactly where he wants to take the story next. You don’t do something like this and not have a long game plan and story arc in place! Of course Watts knows where the story is going, he’s not going to tell anyone that yet, though!

It’ll be interesting to see how Spider-Man’s story continues from here. How do you think things will play out in the next film?
