SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Blows Up at the Box Office with an A+ CinemaScore While MOTAL ENGINES Bombs Badly
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Mortal Engines both came out this weekend, and one of them did a hell of a lot better than the other!
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which is easily one of the best films of the year, had a $34.4 million dollar debut! That’s pretty impressive as it ended up making more than projected in its debut. The movie also received an A+ on CinemaScore, which isn’t an easy feat, but the audiences seem to love the film!
As far as Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines goes, as expected the movie completely bombed. The movie only pulled in $7.5 million domestically and $42.3 million world wide. After all is said and done, Deadline is reporting that the movie will lose at least $100 million. I guess we won’t be seeing those sequels that Jackson was hoping to make.
I actually enjoyed Mortal Engines for what it was, and while it didn’t get a A+ on CinemaScore, it did get a B-, which isn’t too bad! With all the critics bashing the film, I expected it to be worse, but the critics and the audiences who actually went out to see the movie obviously have different taste.
I was rooting for both of these movies. I wanted Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse to succeed because it was just an incredibly made film and the best Spider-Man film to be made yet. I wanted Mortal Engines to succeed because it wasn’t only an epic and entertaining adventure film, it was very different than anything we’ve seen before.
Did you see either of these films this weekend? If so, what did you all think?!
