SPIDER-VERSE Producer Chris Miller Slams Jimmy Kimmel's "Tired And Lazy" Oscar Joke
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producer Chris Miller recently took to social media to make it clear that he did not appreciate Jimmy Kimmel's animation movie jab during the Oscars, and slammed his comments as "tired and lazy."
Kimmel drew a lot of mixed reactions from hosting the 96th Academy Awards this past weekend, and for me, he once again fell flat. At one point during the ceremony, Kimmell made a bad joke about the Best Animated Film category and Miller did not find his dismissal of the genre very funny.
Kimmel said: "Please raise your hand if you let your kid fill out this part of the ballot." The insinuation was that these movies don't matter because they're made for children, which is something a lot of film fans would dispute.
Miller responded to that joke, saying: "Animation is not a genre for children it is a medium for people and that medium is film. Just a reminder a propos of nothing. For those confused, the 'nothing' was yet another 'this category is for kids' joke at the Oscars, which at this point is just tired and lazy."
As someone who loves the art of animation, I 100% agree with Miller. Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron deservedly won the big award that night, and I’m happy that Miller said something.
As for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, while is didn’t win an Oscar, it did win seven Annie Awards and a Critics' Choice Award.
