STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS Star Anson Mount on Captain Pike's "Great Dad Personality"

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns for its highly anticipated second season this week, and we’ll see Anson Mount back in action as Captain Pike as he leads his crew of the USS Enterprise. In a recent interview with TVLine, Mount talks about the kind of leader that Pike is and explains one aspect of the character that he thinks gives him a “great dad personality.” He said:

"I think that he's one of these guys who's also constantly amazed that he's been put in a position of leadership. It's more comfortable for him, sometimes, to throw the question to the room and say, 'I'm out of ideas. Who wants to come up with a solution?' But in a weird way, that's a great dad personality, isn't it?"

Rebecca Romijn, who takes on the role of Pike’s number one Una Chin-Riley, then goes on to compare the crew to kids and how the kids can also have good ideas. She said:

“When you start relying on your crew on the Enterprise and they’re the ones who end up saving the day, it’s like when you see your kid do something. You’re like, ‘I never would have thought of that. That’s amazing. You’re right.’”

Romiijn goes on to talk about Una’s issues in the upcoming season after being arrested by Federation authorities in the Season 1 finale for concealing her Illyrian identity. She very much needs Pike’s help in this situation:

“She’s relying on Pike to help her out and track down the only person that she thinks can help her out. She’s decided to live authentically. She’s not going to hide anymore.”

Fans are so excited for the return of this show and we don’t have to wait much longer! Strange New Worlds Season 2 is set to premiere on Paramount+ on June 15th!
