STAR WARS’ Adria Arjona Tried Pitching ANDOR Season 2 Ideas to Tony Gilroy and Got: “Not This Movie, Baby”
Adria Arjona had some ideas about where Bix Caleen could go in Andor Season 2. There was just one problem, Tony Gilroy already knew exactly what story he wanted to tell.
The second and final season of Andor arrived in 2025 and became the most critically acclaimed live-action Star Wars project ever. While Bix remained an important part of the story, much of what she was doing between major events happened off-screen.
That might sound frustrating for an actor who had spent years building the character, but Arjona didn't see it that way.
When The Hollywood Reporter asked if she was frustrated that Bix's missions mostly happened outside the audience's view, Arjona explained:
"No, because Tony challenged me in a different way. He instead gave me periods of time in Bix's life to jump into that were very complex and complicated.
“I knew that I was able to play an action piece, but those emotional beats were really strong for Bix and really challenging for me. So I wasn't necessarily frustrated because I respect Tony's writing. I was like, Hmm. Okay, cool. There's a reason and a rhythm to the way that he writes."
Arjona trusted Gilroy's approach, but that didn't stop her from picking up the phone and pitching a few ideas of her own.
After working with Richard Linklater and Glen Powell on the Hit Man script, Arjona had gotten a taste for the collaborative writing process. Naturally, she wondered if she could bring a little of that energy over to Star Wars. Gilroy wasn't having it.
"I never want to get in Gilroy's way, even though I [pitched him some ideas] after writing the Hit Man script with Richard Linklater and Glen Powell," she added.
"All three of us collaborated together. So I did call Tony with a bunch of ideas, and he was like, 'No, no, no. Not this movie, baby.' And I was like, 'Damnit. Okay.'"
Considering how carefully constructed Andor was from beginning to end, it's easy to understand why Gilroy wasn't looking to start tossing new ideas into the mix. Arjona also clearly understood when it was time to trust the guy steering the ship.
Bix's story may not necessarily be finished, either. The ending of Andor Season 2 leaves room for the character to appear again somewhere in the Star Wars universe, although Lucasfilm hasn't confirmed any plans for her return.
Arjona, meanwhile, is headed to another massive franchise. She'll make her DCU debut in Man of Tomorrow, which arrives in 2027. Of course, plenty of fans are theorizing that she could actually be playing Wonder Woman.
Whether Bix ever returns remains to be seen, but if Arjona gets another chance to pitch Gilroy some ideas, she already knows what kind of answer might be waiting for her.
