STAR WARS: ASKOKA Reportedly Has Found a New Actor To Play Baylan Skoll
The loss of Ray Stevenson in 2023 was a shock to fans after his awesome portrayal of Baylan Skoll in Star Wars: Ahsoka. He delivered a compelling, enigmatic performance as the former Jedi and his untimely passing raised questions about the character’s future.
With Season 2 of Ahsoka in development, it appears Lucasfilm may have found a new actor to take on the role of Baylan Skoll and that actor is Game of Thrones star Rory McCann.
You know McCann from his role as the Hound in Game of Thrones, and he’s rumored to bring his rugged intensity to the role of Baylan Skoll.
The news was first reported by The InSneider, though Lucasfilm has yet to confirm the casting. If true, McCann could make a solid fit for the role.
Baylan Skoll’s journey in Ahsoka left some big unanswered questions. He was last seen stranded on the mysterious planet Peridea with Ahsoka, Sabine, and his former apprentice Shin Hati.
Skoll’s arc was set up to dive deeper into the Force’s ancient secrets and there was so much more teased to come from the character, leaving fans excited to see where his story will go.
According to the report, Stevenson’s family has approved the recasting, which is a something that will likely brings some solace to fans torn over whether to continue Skoll’s story.
Beyond his unforgettable Game of Thrones performance, McCann has appeared in Hot Fuzz (as the iconic “Yarp” guy) and Gladiator II. His physical build and ability to deliver a strong performance will fit well with Skoll’s menacing yet complex character.
When previously talking about potentially recasting Skoll, Dave Filoni said: “Obviously, there's a story there. We're in a wait and see pattern at this point. But I'm glad the conversation is about Ray and how great he was.
“I used to have little mini debates with him and say, 'Ray, you're the villain here.' And he'd be like, 'I don't think so.' I was like, 'I know you don't think so, but you are.
“I love that you're playing it like you're not.' Which is exactly the way Baylan thinks.”
While no official release date has been set for Ahsoka’s return, creator Dave Filoni has been hard at work scripting the next chapter. The series could debut in 2026 debut, with Ahsoka likely following Andor as the next major Star Wars series on Disney+.
