STAR WARS Fans Rally Around Cal Kestis Live-Action Hopes After New Lucasfilm Updates
The possibility of Cal Kestis finally stepping into live-action Star Wars territory has fans fired up again.
The former Jedi Padawan introduced in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order quickly became one of the franchise’s standout modern-era characters.
After returning in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Cal’s popularity only grew, and now a wave of fresh updates has fans convinced Lucasfilm may be building toward something much bigger than just another video game sequel.
The latest round of speculation started after comments made during a Disneyland-related discussion. A Disney representative speaking with GameRant hinted that Cal’s journey is far from finished, saying:
“Never say never. We’ve got his lightsaber in the park. We’ve got more Cal stories coming,”
That was enough to send Star Wars fans into theory mode almost immediately. Part of what makes the idea so believable is that Cal already feels perfectly built for live-action.
The character was modeled directly after Cameron Monaghan, who also provided the performance and voice work in the games. Fans have pointed out for years that Lucasfilm already has the actor, the look, and a fully established canon character ready to go.
One fan wrote: “Need that 3rd Jedi game and an appearance in live action.” Another added: “Insane that they got an actor, used his exact face and build for Cal Kestis, but still no live action appearance.”
Unlike older Star Wars game protagonists who existed outside official continuity, Cal Kestis is fully woven into Disney’s canon timeline. Across the two Respawn games, he survived Order 66, battled Inquisitors, crossed paths with Darth Vader, and became connected to the Hidden Path network that later appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi. His story already overlaps naturally with events and characters Lucasfilm is actively exploring on Disney+.
Now another interesting detail has added even more fuel to the conversation. A newly released reference book titled Star Wars: Secrets of the Jedi: The Chronicles of Luke Skywalker revealed that Luke Skywalker knew Cal survived the Jedi purge.
Since the book is written from Luke’s perspective after the events of the original trilogy, fans immediately started wondering if that means Cal is still alive during the New Republic era seen in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
If that’s true, the possibilities get pretty exciting. Fans are already imagining Cal crossing paths with Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, or even Luke himself. And honestly, he wouldn’t feel out of place at all.
Cal already carries the kind of emotional history and battle scars that fit perfectly alongside the current generation of live-action Star Wars heroes.
With a third Star Wars Jedi game reportedly in development and Lucasfilm continuing to expand interconnected storytelling across games, films, and Disney+ series, the timing feels right for Cal Kestis to finally make the jump.
At this point, it almost feels like a matter of when, not if.
