STAR WARS: GALACTIC RACER Launch Trailer Brings Podracing Back at Full Speed
Podracing is back, and things are about to get fast, dirty, and wonderfully dangerous in for Star Wars gamers.
Secret Mode has released a new launch trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer, giving fans a fresh look at the high-speed racing game from first-time developer Fuse Games. I’ve heard the game is actually pretty awesome.
The footage packs in roaring engines, aggressive competitors, familiar Star Wars worlds, and enough reckless driving to make you wonder how any of these racers survive to see the finish line.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer puts players into an unsanctioned racing circuit known as the Galactic League. The single-player campaign follows Shade, an original character looking to make a name for themselves against some seriously dangerous competition.
The trailer opens on Jakku as racers fire up their engines and prepare to tear across the planet. Once the starting signal hits, everyone rockets forward and it quickly becomes clear this isn’t a friendly race. Competitors slam into one another and try to force rivals off course while fighting for position.
Players won’t be limited to traditional podracers, either. Galactic Racer includes landspeeders, speeder bikes, podracers, and newly introduced skim speeders, giving the races a nice mix of Star Wars vehicles to throw around the tracks.
The trailer also jumps between races on different planets while introducing several characters Shade will encounter along the way. Hibi, Darius Pax, Kestar Bool, and the returning Sebulba are among the racers and allies featured in the footage.
There are six planets to race across, including Crait and Tatooine, so players will get more than one kind of terrain to survive. Outside the campaign, Star Wars: Galactic Racer also includes multiplayer PvP grudge matches for players who would rather test their racing skills against actual people.
The game is available in three versions: the Standard Edition for $59.99, Deluxe Edition for $79.99, and Collector’s Edition for $159.99.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also the second major Star Wars video game release of the year following Star Wars Zero Company, the franchise’s turn-based tactics game.
For fans who have wanted another Star Wars game built around screaming engines, dangerous tracks, and racers willing to play dirty, Galactic Racer looks ready to scratch that itch.
Star Wars will also be heading back to theaters next year with Star Wars: Starfighter, giving fans another big-screen adventure to look forward to after they’re finished tearing up the Galactic League.
