STAR WARS Just Gave Grogu a Big Order 66 Revea in New Jar Jar Binks Comic

I didn’t think that I’d see an expansion of Grogu’s Order 66 backstory in a Jar Jar Binks comic, but here we are. In one of the most unexpected corners of the Star Wars galaxy, a new comic centered on the Gungan outcast just connected some dots about how Grogu survived the fall of the Jedi.

We’ve known since The Mandalorian that Grogu was rescued from the Jedi Temple during Order 66. Season 3 delivered the big reveal that it was Ahmed Best’s Jedi Kelleran Beq who fought through clone troopers and escaped Coruscant with the youngling.

The flashback showed Beq getting Grogu off-world aboard a Naboo cruiser with help from the Naboo Royal Guard.

Now, thanks to the comic Jar Jar, co-written by Best and Marc Guggenheim, we finally have more context for why Naboo was involved at all.

As reported by The HoloFiles, the comic pairs Jar Jar Binks and Kelleran Beq on a mission that leads to some surprisingly meaningful conversations. At one point, the two share their doubts about Palpatine.

That relationship ends up mattering more than anyone expected. By the end of the story, Jar Jar and Beq establish a secret line of communication using a fractal radio, the same kind of device seen in Andor.

The comic doesn’t spell everything out, but the implications are pretty clear. Jar Jar, a native of Naboo and a Senate representative for the planet, likely played a key role in mobilizing aid during the Jedi purge.

It makes sense that he would send a cruiser and Royal Guards to help save whoever they could. According to the comic, the ship Beq uses to escape Coruscant with Grogu even resembles The Heyblibber Duck, Jar Jar’s personal cruiser.

If that’s true, then Jar Jar wasn’t just comic relief during the Republic era. He may have directly helped save one of the most important Force-sensitive beings in the galaxy.

There’s also something beautifully full circle about all this. Ahmed Best not only plays Kelleran Beq and Jar Jar Binks, but he also co-wrote the comic that ties their stories together. After years of fan backlash over Jar Jar, seeing Best weave the character into such a crucial piece of Star Wars lore feels pretty awesome.

This reveal adds even more emotional weight to Grogu’s survival. Order 66 wiped out nearly the entire Jedi Order. Knowing that a Gungan senator and a Jedi Master coordinated in secret to get him out alive adds depth to a moment we thought we already understood.

Up next is Maul – Shadow Lord, which will explore Darth Maul’s story between The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. After that, Grogu returns to theaters in The Mandalorian and Grogu, marking the franchise’s first big-screen outing since 2019.
