STAR WARS REBELS Writer Simon Kinberg Confirmed To Be Writing New STAR WARS Film
Simon Kinberg, who's been a producer and writer on the X-Men film franchise since 2006, the Fantastic Four reboot, and Star Wars Rebels, is working on a new Star Wars movie project. A few months ago it was rumored that he was developing the upcoming Boba Fett film for Lucasfilm and now Deadline confirms that he's working on a Star Wars project, but doesn't say what that project is.
I just assume it is Boba Fett because he was working on that film with director Josh Trank before Trank was fired after Fantastic Four came out. Lucasfilm has since put the project on hold, but maybe it's not as on hold as we thought it was.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kenndy previously talked about the project, saying:
“It’s still one of the stories that we absolutely want to tell. There is a lot of innovative technology in and around what it is we’re doing with that story, so for a lot of reasons, we were comfortable postponing that. But we’re definitely still developing it.”
Kinberg, who is currently directing X-Men: Dark Pheonix, is a solid choice to take on the project because he's very familiar with the Star Wars universe. I imagine if Dark Pheonix turns out good, Lucasfilm might actually keep him on to direct the Boba Fett film. It was just announced that he will also be helming the Logan's Run remake, so he is definitely on the directing career path.
I think that it's great that Kinberg is still involved with the Star Wars franchise. Are you excited to see what he ends up bringing to this new Star Wars movie he's working on? What would you like to see in a Boba Fett movie?
