STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE — Sam Claflin and Riz Ahmed Could Join The Cast
Following the events of Star Wars Celebration, director Gareth Edwards spoke about the tone of his war movie Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, and how we should "expect the unexpected." But one of the things we do expect is that the film's cast will be spectacular, and that's already proving to be true with the confirmation of Felicity Jones and the heavily rumored news that Ben Mendolsohn is on board.
Badass Digest reports that Riz Ahmed is attached to the film, playing one of the main characters in what is described as a Dirty Dozen or Magnificent Seven-style ensemble. Ahmed played Jake Gyllenhaal's character's sidekick Rick in last year's Nightcrawler, and he'd be a terrific addition to the cast of Rogue One. Additionally, The Wrap says that not only is Mendolsohn a lock for the movie, but The Hunger Games star Sam Claflin is the frontrunner for one of the larger ensemble roles as well. I'm not quite sold on Claflin as a star, but I wouldn't necessarily be disappointed to see him pop up in an ensemble cast like this.
We should be hearing a lot more about casting for this movie very soon since filming gets underway this summer, and these reports indicate that it will have a rather large cast. This is a Star Wars movie we're talking about, so expect every role — no matter what size — to be reported on like crazy. Stay tuned for more info as soon as it becomes available.
