STAR WARS: ROGUE SQUADRON Director Patty Jenkins Says The Film Will Try To "Blend The Best of Everything"
Director Patty Jenkins is currently deep in development on Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars film project Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. It will be the next film that Jenkins directs. There’s still so much we don’t know about the movie but in an interview with Associated Press, Jenkins talked about the movie, saying:
"I'm definitely doing Rogue Squadron next and I'm excited to do Wonder Woman 3. The Michael Stackpole books and the video games and all of the Rogue Squadron books, there's an incredible history that's really important to honor. And yet, it must be brought to a new age, because we have to tell a new story with it and so you're trying to blend the best of everything and make it the great fighter-pilot movie, which I've always wanted to make, as well. It's a big brew of things that you're trying to put together and still try to keep a simple story."
It’s already been explained that the movie will not be a direct adaptation of any pre-existing narrative. This will be an original story that is heavily inspired by the games and the books. When talking about the pressure of making a Star Wars film, she went on to say:
"You're trying to bring the best of yourself and use it to make something beautiful that honors the legacy before you. Of course, it's a huge amount of pressure and Wonder Woman was a huge amount of pressure, as well, so it's not a totally new feeling to me. Definitely nerve-wracking."
Matthew Robinson is writing the script for Rogue Squadron, he is the writer of one of my favorite films of 2020, Love and Monsters and I’m excited to see what kind of fun and adventurous story he brings to the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is set to hit theaters on December 22, 2023.
