STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Will Introduce New Droid SM 33 Voiced by Nick Frost

Some new details have been shared for Lucasfilm and Jon Watts’ upcoming series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. It was revealed in People Magazine that the series will introduce a new droid named SM 33, and it will be voiced by Nick Frost.

Watts offered some details on SM 33: "He's like a rusty old, cranky droid that sort of reluctantly helps the kids along the way.”

He adds that Frost playing the character is "fun" and "absolutely perfect" and says that the “other thing about him is that he's the first mate of a mysterious ship."

Law then went on to talk about how the robots were "an inspiration to work with." He said: "Of course, you were expecting to work with droids and alien species, but you forget that they're brought to life in front of you by these extraordinary people who have skills, whether it's puppets or as animatronic experts.”

He continued: "You're surrounded by them because they're as much a part of the cast as those who are flesh and blood."

It makes sense that a new droid would be introduced in the series because a new droid is introduced in pretty much every new Star Wars project!

The series has been described as ”a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.” The story will follow four young kids from a tiny little planet, and they end up getting lost in the Star Wars galaxy and embark on a journey to find their way back home.

The film was pitched to Lucasfilm as “Goonies in Star Wars," and it’s been explained that while the series stars four kids, “it's not a kid’s show."

The adventure that they find themselves on is said to be an intense and dark journey. In the story, four kids make “a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet and get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a great adventure than they ever imagined."

The children in the series are played by Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The episodes in the show will be directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, The Daniels, David Lowery, Jake Schreier, and Lee Isaac Chung. The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will executive produce.

The series is set to premiere on Disney+ by this Christmas.
