STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER Reveals First Official Look at Ryan Gosling

Lucasfilm has officially kicked off production on Star Wars: Starfighter, and with that announcement comes our very first look at the film along with confirmation of the cast lineup.

The movie is being directed by Shawn Levy, best known for Deadpool & Wolverine and Free Guy, and it’s set to star Ryan Gosling in the lead role and Flynn Gray (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2), who are featured in the image with a landspeeder.

Story details are still being kept under wraps, with the film only described as “an all-new standalone adventure” and “an entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored in Star Wars.”

Reports suggest that the movie takes place after The Rise of Skywalker and features Gosling as a Jedi training his nephew as a Padawan. Since their relationship is expected to be central to the story, it’s safe to assume their dynamic will drive much of the story.

It also stars Matt Smith (House of the Dragon), Mia Goth (Infinity Pool), Aaron Pierre (Lanterns), Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners), Jamael Westman (Hedda), Daniel Ings (Lovesick), and Amy Adams (Man of Steel).

Adams is said to be playing the mother of Gray’s character, which would make for a pretty key family connection.

Levy recently shared his excitement in a statement, saying:

"I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally."

He added:

"Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime."

The film is produced by Levy and Kathleen Kennedy, with executive producers Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen. The script comes from Jonathan Tropper.

Star Wars: Starfighter is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
