STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE Star Jodie Turner-Smith Reveals Details About Her Character
There’s still so much that we don’t know about Lucasfilm’s upcoming series Star Wars: The Acolyte. What we do know is that the story is set in the High Republic era, which is a fascinating time period to explore.
The story is described as "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated."
During a recent interview, Jodie Turner-Smith talked about the series and what it was like for her to work on the series, telling CB:
"As soon as you walk onto one of those sets, I mean, first of all, when you walk into one of those sets, you're like, okay, they got money. This is wealthy, this production. But second of all,it just feels even, no matter if you're in a different show, a different movie, whatever you're just like, 'Oh.' It's a very cool and surreal experience. That \was definitely another bucket list moment."
It must be so cool to actually be a part of developing these Star Wars shows! I would absolutely love it! In a separate interview with Collider, Turner-Smith explained how working on The Acolyte is different from her past work:
"Obviously, the subject matter is different. It's different when everything that you're doing is light-hearted, and that's not what I was doing for Star Wars,' she said. "But I was working with my favorite director that I've worked with so far, Kogonada, and under the leadership of Leslye Headland. It is incredible to see. I can't wait to see how this show turns out."
Turner Smith when on to talk a little bit about her character and revealed that she is not playing a Jedi in the movie. She explained: "I didn't get to use a lightsaber… but I did… not get to use a lightsaber because I am not a Jedi!"
As for what it was like for you to work with the series star Amanda Stenberg, it turns out that she actually didn’t work with her! She also went on to say:
"What can I say that won't get me fired? Walking onto set, I'll just say this, this is vague enough. You know that it must take a lot of technical ability and craftsmanship to make Star Wars, but you have no clue how expansive it is until you're a part of it. Whether it's the puppeteers or the costume designers, or all of the folks from all the different departments who build the sets, you don't realize how much incredible technology and foresight there is in every element until you're there."
The series is being developed by Leslye Headland who serves as director, writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Headland has been working very closely with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy on this project. It also stars Lee Jung-jae, Dean Charle Chapman, and Dafne Keen (Logan, His Dark Materials).
The story will explore an interesting era that has only been explored in a series of books and comics so far. It is the golden age of the Jedi, when the Jedi were at their strongest and the Sith were believed to have been eradicated from the galaxy. The term “acolyte” refers to individuals with Force abilities who learn from a more experienced Sith Lord.
It was also previously explained that the show “specifically explores the rise of the Dark Side in those final days of the High Republic era.” The series is also said to explore some major Sith characters from Star Wars Legends. Do you think this show is going to be a hit or a miss?
The Acolyte will debut on Dsney+ in 2024.
