Steven Spielberg Set Up His Next Film Project at Universal Pictures with Writer David Koepp

Universal Pictures has announced a new film project that was created and will be directed by Steven Spielberg. it’s set to hit theaters on May 15th, 2026.

The filmmaker’s longtime collaborator David Koepp is set to write the script. Spielberg and Koepp previously worked on projects such as Jurassic ParkThe Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The report from Deadline says there are no details to share on the story for this movie, and there is also no title for the movie, but last month it was reported that Spielberg’s next movie would be a “UFO film based on his own original idea.”

Spielberg seems to enjoy telling stories about UFOs and aliens, he directed two of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time: Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977 and E.T. in 1982. He also helmed the 2005 adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds, and he produced the 2002 UFO series Taken.

Spielberg also previously reflected on his past and teased that he’s interested in "scaring the sh*t" out of audiences with a new horror movie.

He said: "I feel a little alarmed to be told I've lived a lifetime because I'm not finished. I want to keep working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself and sometimes the shit out of you. I gotta get back to some of those earlier scary movies but that's another story for later on."

As a longtime fan of Spielberg, I’m really excited about this new project his! Maybe this will be some kind of sci-fi horror film!
