Steven Spielberg's Next Project Will Tell a UFO Film Based on His Own Original Idea
It looks like Steven Spielberg is headed back to play in the extraterrestrial sandbox! A recent report from Variety says that the filmmaker will “likely make his next project a UFO film based on his own original idea.”
The script for that movie will be written by Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp, who is also working on the new Jurassic World reboot. I love that Spielberg is working with Koepp again. He also worked on films such as Spider-Man, Panic Room, Mission: Impossible, and more.
Spielberg is no stranger to telling stories about UFOs and aliens, he directed two of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time: Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977 and E.T. in 1982. He also helmed the 2005 adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds, and he produced the 2002 UFO series Taken.
It’ll be interesting to see what this movie ends up being. Spielberg recently reflected on his past and teased that he’s interested in "scaring the sh*t" out of audiences with a new horror movie.
He said: "I feel a little alarmed to be told I've lived a lifetime because I'm not finished. I want to keep working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself and sometimes the shit out of you. I gotta get back to some of those earlier scary movies but that's another story for later on."
It would be pretty awesome if Spielberg ended up making a UFO horror movie! We’ll just have to wait and see!
