Steven Yeun Joins Paramount’s Untitled Animated Aang AVATAR Movie

Steven Yeun is heading back to the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Oscar-nominated actor has officially joined the cast of Paramount and Nickelodeon’s upcoming animated film centered on Aang, though details about his character remain a mystery.

The film will follow Aang as an adult, and Yeun joins a star-studded ensemble that includes Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza.

For fans of the Avatar universe, Yeun’s casting is an exciting full-circle moment. He previously lent his voice to The Legend of Korra, portraying Wan, the very first Avatar. Now, he's stepping back into this world in a yet-to-be-revealed role, sparking plenty of speculation about which nation he’ll represent.

The film, set to hit theaters on January 30, 2026, is being directed by Lauren Montgomery, with William Mata co-directing. The project is backed by longtime franchise creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, who are producing alongside Maryann Garger and Latifa Ouaou.

Outside of animation, Yeun’s career has been on fire. He’s currently filming Ben Affleck’s Animals for Netflix and recently wrapped RIP, a project that reunites him with both Affleck and Matt Damon.

His latest big-screen role sees him starring in Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi epic Mickey 17 alongside Robert Pattinson. Other film credits include Love Me with Kristen Stewart, Jordan Peele’s Nope, and Bong’s Okja.

On the TV front, Yeun delivered an award-winning performance in Netflix and A24’s Beef, a show he also executive produced. Of course, many still remember him from The Walking Dead, and he’s also done voice work for Invincible, Tuca & Bertie, and The Twilight Zone.
