Steven Yeun Talks About INVINCIBLE Season 2 and Says Robert Kirkman Thinks It Will Be Even Better Than Season 1
Robert Kirkman’s Invincible animated series ended up becoming a big hit with audiences. From what I understand, the production for Season 1 was a rough one, but they managed to pull it off and make a successful show.
Invincible Season 2 is currently in development and there’s so much more of the story that needs to be told, especially after that insane season finale with Omni-Man's true intentions being revealed. There’s a lot at stake.
Steven Yeun recently spoke to Collider about the upcoming season and shared that Kirkman is incredibly excited about what’s coming in the next chapter of the story. He said:
"[Kirkman's] super excited about it. He thinks season 2 is gonna be even better than season 1, which I have no doubt about. If you go to his source material, Invincible is an incredible comic, and just thinking about how much story hasn't been told from that run, it's gonna be bonkers. I'm really excited about it."
I have no doubt that it will be a completely bonkers series! I imagine that things are just going to get even more insane in Season 2. When talking about the show’s popularity, Yeun said that he didn’t "expect this level of response," and the attributes that success to "America's appetite now for adult animation, which is really cool."
I don’t know, I think there’s always been an appetite for adult animation, but now with all of the streaming services available, studios and production companies are actually being given the opportunity to make these shows which is great!
A few months ago, Yeun offered an update on the show, saying that it’s going to be a while before we see it return. He said: "We haven't started. I know we're starting at some point soon. I've talked to Robert [Kirkman], here and there. He's super excited about it. He thinks Season 2 is gonna be even better than Season 1, which I have no doubt about. If you go to his source material, Invincible is an incredible comic, and just thinking about how much story hasn't been told from that run, it's gonna be bonkers. I'm really excited about it."
Showrunner Simon Racioppa also previously shared: "We're working hard on it. The one thing I'd tell people is we've been working hard on it for a longer period than they think. A lot of people assume we've just got started on it, and that's not true. We've been working on it for a while now. But, it's a big show. To do it properly takes time. We're still in the pandemic. We're hopefully coming out of it, but that makes things a little slower too. Everybody is working very hard on it; I think you're going to be very happy with it. I hope so. We want to make it as badly as everyone wants to see it. We're deep in. I wish it was already done and I wish it was finished, but it's just not."
Invincible revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Yeun), who's just like every other guy his age — except his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). The series also stars Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Gillian Jacobs, Zachary Quinto, Jason Mantzoukas, Melise, Mark Hamill, Mahershala Ali, Seth Rogen, and more.
