STRANGER THINGS Producer Shawn Levy Explains Why Series Will End With Season 5

Stranger Things has been such a fun show to watch over the years and fans have been eagerly waiting for its return with Season 4. We’ve been itching to see the story of these characters continue and that story will all come to an end with Season 5. It’s gonna be a sad day to see this series come to an end, but five seasons is what was planned from the very beginning, so the fact that the Duffer Bros. and their creative team get to tell the full story they set out to tell is awesome.

Stranger Things executive producer and director Shawn Levy recently opened up about the end of the series and explained why Season 5 is the right time to bring it to an end. He also teased Season 4, saying that it will be worth the wait. Here’s what he had to say to ScreenRant:

"Well, we never wanted to run on fumes and we wanted to only tell as much story as the brothers saw and feel with clarity. So it's been clear for a while that they know exactly where we're headed and this is the arc. We wouldn't want to stick around for one moment beyond that vision and the clarity of that voice. So rather than focusing on that sad day that happens who knows when, the end of season five, I'll just once again reaffirm what I've told everyone, which is it has been a long-ass wait for season four. But I swear to God, the world will realize it's worth it."

Again, I’m just happy that these guys actually got to tell the full story they wanted to tell. That’s all that matters. But, also there are Stranger Things spinoff shows that are being planned. We just don’t know exactly what those spinoff shows will be. When previously talking about the end of the series, creators Matt and Ross Duffer said:

“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for ‘Stranger Things.' At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you’ll soon see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.

“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of ‘Stranger Things’; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down. As always, we are grateful for your patience and support.”

The series stars Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, and Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson. Then, of course, there’s David Harbour as Jim Hopper. The series also stars Sadie Sink as Max, Joe Keery as Steve, Natalia Dyer as Nancy, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan and Maya Hawke as Robin.

Stranger Things Season 4 part 1 will debut on May 27th, and part 2 will launch July 1st on Netflix.
