STRANGER THINGS Season 2 Adds One of The New Power Rangers and Another Young Broadway Vet
A month and a half ago, we learned that there would be three new characters added to Stranger Things for the second season of the breakout Netflix hit series. Now THR has news about actors who have been cast in two out of three of those roles, and one of them is from the new Power Rangers movie.
But first, the show has also cast another Broadway veteran in Sadie Sink, who is the latest cast member of this show to have some serious musical talent. The actor, who has appeared on both Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Americans, will play Max, a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behavior and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era. Instead of bikes like the other kids, she cruises around Hawkins, Indiana on a skateboard. The site says Max "has a complicated history and is generally suspicious of those around her."
Meanwhile, Dacre Montgomery — who plays Jason, the Red Ranger, in Lionsgate's upcoming Power Rangers — will play Max's older step-brother Billy. Described as "hyper-confident" and "edgy," his character "steals girlfriends away from their boyfriends, is great at drinking games and drives a black Camaro. But lurking under his apparent charisma is a violent and unpredictable nature."
That description makes it sound like the series is looking to create a teen "villain" worse than Steve Harrington, presumably so we'll root harder for Steve and Nancy to be together. Along those lines, actor Joe Keery (who plays Steve) has been upped to a series regular role, alongside Noah Schnapp, who was sidelined in the Upside Down for most of the first season as Will.
What do you think about these two new additions? Stranger Things season 2 debuts sometime in 2017.
