STREET FIGHTER: WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes Reportedly in Talks to Play Guile in Live-Action Film
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s reveal that David Dastmalchian is stepping into the role of M. Bison in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, a new report from Nexus Point News is reporting that WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes is in talks to join the fight as Guile.
Guile is the U.S. Air Force colonel with the iconic flat-top and the most American energy blast in video game history… Sonic Boom projectile!
If true, Rhodes would follow in the footsteps of Jean-Claude Van Damme, who famously played Guile in the gloriously chaotic 1994 adaptation. That version may not have aged gracefully, but it’s earned a nostalgic fanbase, mostly for how bonkers it was.
Cody stepping into the role brings a completely different energy. Rhodes wouldn’t be the only WWE star making the jump. Roman Reigns is reportedly in negotiations to play Akuma, the demonic fighter with a personal vendetta tied to Ryu and Ken.
Jason Momoa has also been cast in the film and may be taking on the role of Blanka. Add in Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo as Ryu and Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, 50 Cent as Balrog, and Orville Peck as Vega, and you've got one of the wild ensemble cast!
Kitao Sakurai is at the helm, known for his work on The Eric Andre Show and the upcoming Butterfly series on Amazon.
Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise has always had the ingredients for a killer movie with it iconic characters, over-the-top action, and a global fanbase. It just never quite clicked on the big screen. Maybe this time, with an all-in ensemble and a director willing to lean into the chaos of it all, they’ll finally land that perfect combo.
So, what to you think about the possibility of seeing Cody Rhodes as Guile?
