SUPERGIRL Star Milly Alcock Talks About the Excitement and Fears She Faced When She Was Cast as Kara Zor-El
Milly Alcock has taken on the role of Kara Zor-El in DC’s highly anticipated Supergirl. We got our first look at the character in this summer’s Superman, and her adventure will continue in her upcoming film, which has already been getting good buzz.
Alcock has already starred in some solid projects, including the Game of Thrones series House of the Dragon at HBO, and the Netflix limited series Sirens, but she knew diving into the Superman fandom was a whole different ballgame.
In a recent interview with Forbes Australia, the actress shared that, upon being told she had landed the role of Supergirl, her first reaction was, understandably, of both excitement and fear.
"I thought, 'What have I done?' I really struggled to believe I could do it. I even called the director [Craig Gillespie] saying, 'I don't know how to be that person. I'm just me.' Eventually I realised the only way through was to trust myself. I always believe life is right on time. Things happen when they're supposed to, whether you feel ready or not."
She also talked about the scale of this role, how things have changed for her so far, and how she expects them to change even more when her full film comes out:
"People mean well. But sometimes they invade your space, they chase you. You lose anonymity. I still want to take the tube and go to the pub. [...] In London, it’s fine. In other places, not so much. It comes in waves. I know when Supergirl comes out, things will shift again."
It’s unfortunately the price actors have to pay when they hit it big, but hopefully she is still able to enjoy a little anonymity here and there. Supergirl hits theaters on June 26, 2026.
