SUPERMAN Spinoff Series DC CRIME With Jimmy Olsen Will Be Retitled and Is Billed as a "Crime Mystery Comedy"

At the end of last year, we reported that a new Superman spinoff series, then titled DC Crime, was in the works at DC Studios and HBO Max. The series, which is still moving forward under a new undecided name, is being billed as a true crime docuseries with Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) from Superman returning to reprise his role.

Season one reportedly will be centered around DC bad guy Gorilla Grodd, who often wrestles The Flash in the comics. Grodd had psychic powers and other skills after his encounter with an alien spaceship.

As far as we know, the story details have remained the same, but the title is still in development. Along with confirming this news, co-showrunner Dan Perrault chatted about the show’s tone in a recent interview with DC Direct, saying:

"It's a different title that hasn't been announced yet. We were tossing around some names last week. We really like, honestly, multiple of them, but all I can say is that it's not called 'Untitled Jimmy Olsen show.'“

He went on:

“Well, it's comfortable territory for Tony Yacenda and I. We've worked in this crime mystery comedy for a very long time... There's definitely tools from that toolkit that we can apply here that I don't think has been seen in the superhero genre thus far."

Gisondo is set to return for the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, which is slated to hit theatres on July 9, 2027. The new Jimmy Olsen series does not yet have a release date.
