Sydney Sweeney Reportedly in Serious Talks for a Major MCU Role
Sydney Sweeney may be getting another shot at the Marvel universe, and this time she could be heading straight into the MCU.
A new rumor claims the actress is in talks for a major role with Marvel Studios. Nothing has been announced, and there’s no word on which character she could play, but Sweeney joining the MCU would certainly be an interesting move.
According to scooper My Time To Shine Hello, Sweeney is “in serious talks” for a major MCU role. No character, movie, or TV project was included with the claim, so there isn’t much to go on beyond the possibility that Marvel Studios wants her for something substantial.
This also isn’t the first time Sweeney has been connected to the MCU. The same insider previously claimed she was being eyed for an unspecified X-Men role, though no update followed that report.
For now, this belongs firmly in rumor territory. Until Marvel Studios or Sweeney confirms something, fans shouldn’t treat her MCU involvement as a done deal.
Of course, Sweeney already has some Marvel experience. She played Julia Carpenter, aka Spider-Woman, in Sony’s Madame Web, appearing alongside Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and Zosia Mamet.
Directed by S.J. Clarkson, Madame Web followed Johnson’s Cassandra Webb as she attempted to protect Julia Carpenter and the other young women being hunted by Ezekiel Sims.
The movie didn’t exactly leave audiences demanding more from Sony’s Spider-Man universe, but Julia Carpenter remains a character with plenty of untapped potential. In Marvel Comics, she possesses psychic and spider-like abilities and eventually becomes a super-agent and a powerful member of the Avengers.
I seriously doubt she will be reprising this role in the MCU if she is cast. If this is a “Huge” role Marvel Studios is almost certainly looking to cast her as a completely different character.
Sweeney also has another massive franchise project coming up. She’s set to appear in Netflix’s live-action Gundam movie alongside Noah Centineo, Jackson White, Shioli Kutsuna, Nonso Anozie, and Michael Mando.
Sweeney has expressed interest in joining the MCU before, so if these latest reports turn out to be accurate, the pieces may finally be coming together. The bigger question is who Marvel wants her to play.
