Marvel’s X-MEN Reboot Cast Revealed With Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Inde Navarette as Rogue, and More
Marvel’s mutants are officially assembling, and the studio just confirmed the cast of X-Men at D23 Expo!
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige welcomed director Jake Schreier and members of the newly revealed cast to the stage.
Along with unveiling the movie’s logo, Marvel confirmed a May 5, 2028 release date and announced several major casting additions, including Rogue, Storm, Emma Frost, Professor X, and a particularly interesting character being played by Adam Driver.
There’s also a much bigger MCU implication here. X-Men will officially launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next Saga in 2028, putting the mutants right at the center of whatever Marvel has planned after its current storyline wraps up.
The team will be led by Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Kit Connor as Cyclops. Sink recently made her MCU debut as Jean in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
They’ll be joined by Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Abbott, who recently starred in Wolf Man, had previously been reported as Marvel’s new Professor X, while Weaving had been previously announced for the Emma Frost role.
The casting announcements got more interesting with Inde Navarrette officially taking on Rogue and Maya Boyd landing the role of Storm.
Navarrette recently turned heads with her performance in the horror film Obsession and has quickly become an in-demand talent in Hollywood. She previously confirmed that she had met with Schreier, though she threw fans off the scent by expressing interest in playing Mystique. Turns out Marvel had another mutant in mind for her.
Boyd is the biggest wildcard of the group because X-Men will actually be her first film or television role. She does have serious stage experience, having made her Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along before playing Juliet Capulet in the Broadway production of & Juliet.
Going from Broadway to playing Storm in a massive Marvel Studios movie is one hell of a jump, and she must have made a serious impression on Schreier and the studio to land such an iconic character.
Then there’s Adam Driver, who will play Nathaniel Milbury, a name longtime Marvel Comics fans will recognize as one of the identities used by Mister Sinister. Marvel had a little fun with the reveal, with Driver addressing fans through a video message and initially pretending he was about to announce himself as Magneto.
Driver said: "Kevin and I have been talking for years about me joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think we've finally found the perfect film at the perfect time with characters I care very deeply about."
He continued: "So I'm very excited to be playing the role of...Magneto! Wrong again? Right. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So, I'll be right here waiting for everybody to show up."
So yes, Adam Driver is Mister Sinister, and that’s some pretty great casting. Sinister also makes a lot of sense as a major threat for Marvel’s first proper MCU X-Men movie.
Nathaniel Essex has deep connections to mutant genetics, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and the Summers family in the comics, giving Marvel plenty of material to play with as this new version of the franchise takes shape.
There are almost certainly more mutants waiting to be announced. Beast has been heavily rumored to appear, and it would be surprising if Marvel’s first MCU X-Men roster stopped with the characters revealed at D23.
What we have so far, though, is a strong start. X-Men arrives in theaters on May 5, 2028.
