Sylvester Stallone Says He's Done Playing RAMBO

We know that at one point Sylvester Stallone was looking at possibly making another Rambo film, but that didn't happen. Instead, there's a TV series being developed at Fox that Stallone will not be a part of. In fact, it doesn't look like we'll ever see Stallone in the role of John Rambo ever again.

The actor has made four Rambo films in his career, and in a recent interview with Variety, the 69-year-old actor admits that he's done.

“The heart’s willing, but the body says, ‘Stay home!' It’s like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else.”

It's kind of sad to think that we'll never see Stallone back in this iconic role, but it makes sense that he would retire from it. He's pretty damn old! The actor added:

“As an action film, I was very satisfied that [Rambo IV] dealt with the Burmese situation. It had one foot in a current event, the longest civil war in history, 65 years at that time. It was so brutal, which civil war is, I was shocked they even gave me an R-rating. I didn’t want to compromise. I said, ‘This is probably going to be the last decent film of this genre that I’m going to do as a solo act.’ When that was accomplished, I never felt the same willingness to do it again.”

He added:

“There’s nothing left. When they asked me to do another Rambo’ I said, ‘If I can’t do better than I did last time, and I can’t, then why’?”

As for what Stallone thinks about the upcoming new series in development, he said:

“I don’t want to cast aspersions, but it’s delicate to try to replace a character with his son. I’ve seen the son of Flicka, the son of Tarzan, the son of King Kong, the son of Godzilla. It’s a very difficult premise.”

I personally don't think the series should be made without Stallone's involvement. This is his baby. If he's not willing to be a part of it, they might as well just let it go. Stallone had a great run with this franchise, but he can't play this character forever!
