Taika Waititi Confirmed to Write and Direct a New a STAR WARS Feature Film!
Lucasfilm has officially announced that Taikia Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, and The Mandalorian) will direct and co-write a new Star Wars feature film! We’ve heard rumors about Lucasfilm wanting the filmmaker to direct a Star Wars movie, so it’s great to see that they actually managed to bring him on board!
Waititi will write the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho). As you might expect, there are no details to share on the film or what it might entail. But I’m still super excited to see that Waititi will be directing a new Star Wars movie!
Waititi is a crazy talented director and storyteller. We’ve already seen what he could do with The Mandalorian, and now I can’t wait to see what he delivers for a new Star Wars movie!
It was previously reported that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will be involved with the future of the Star Wars films, so it makes sense that they would want to continue to work with Waititi.
It was also confirmed that writer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll, Bachelorette) is developing a new untitled Star Wars series for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the series. This is the female-led martial arts Star Wars series that we previously reported on.
Release dates for both Waititi’s and Headland’s projects have not yet been announced.
