Temuera Morrison Says Boba Fett Is “Shelved” and Won’t Appear in THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU
If you were hoping to see Boba Fett jump back into action in The Mandalorian and Grogu, you might need to temper those expectations. According to Temuera Morrison, the actor who brought the legendary bounty hunter back to life in The Book of Boba Fett, his character currently isn’t part of Lucasfilm’s plans.
During a recent interview, Morrison opened up about his current status in the Star Wars universe, and it sounds like Boba Fett has been put on ice for the time being. Morrison said:
"[I’m] shelved, that’s all, like a jar of peaches. When it does get opened, I’m going to come out sweeter, darling.”
That colorful metaphor pretty much sums up where things stand. Fans haven’t seen Boba Fett since The Book of Boba Fett aired in 2021, and the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu film doesn’t appear to include him either.
Morrison previously tried to stir up support from fans in hopes of returning to the galaxy far, far away. Back in 2025, he jokingly encouraged people to reach out to Lucasfilm on his behalf. The studio apparently noticed. The actor explained:
"I was only joking. I’m at a convention, and I say stupid things. Then I’ve got [Lucasfilm] ringing me: 'Look, you’ve been put on the shelf, Boba Fett. We might open up the jar later.'"
Even if Boba Fett is currently sidelined, Morrison’s history with Star Wars runs deep. He first entered the franchise in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, playing Jango Fett, the template for the Republic’s clone army. That role eventually tied him to several other characters across the saga.
"I’m Jango. I’m Boba. I’m Commander Cody. I’m all the clones. I’m Captain Rex.... the list goes on, so I really can’t complain.”
After years away from the franchise, Morrison finally got the spotlight when he returned to lead The Book of Boba Fett. The series explored the character’s attempt to carve out his own criminal empire on Tatooine alongside Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand.
While the show had a few fun moments, it landed with mixed reviews, a middling Rotten Tomatoes score, and viewership that didn’t quite match the excitement surrounding The Mandalorian. Lucasfilm dropped the ball on that one.
Still, Morrison looks back on the experience fondly.
"It was a big deal for me. When you do a series like Boba Fett and work with Ming-Na [Wen], I started to think, 'Man, this is it. I’m away. Season 2, 3, 4.' But at the end of it, we had a great time. I was honored to be brought back after all that time."
For now, the story will move forward without him. The Mandalorian and Grogu shifts the spotlight back to Din Djarin and his Force-sensitive companion as they navigate the fragile era of the New Republic while dealing with scattered Imperial warlords.
The film stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin and features Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White in currently undisclosed roles.
Whether Lucasfilm eventually opens that “jar of peaches” and lets Boba Fett back into the fight remains to be seen. The character is too iconic to stay sidelined forever, but for the moment, it looks like he’ll be watching the next chapter of the story from the shelf.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to hit theaters on May 22.
