The 1993 SUPER MARIO BROS. Film Shoots to the Top of Amazon's Best Sellers Chart
I’m sure most of you remember the 1993 live-action film adaptation of Super Mario Bros. That was such a gloriously bad movie, and I can’t help but love it for what it is.
Well, you might be interested in learning that since the casting announcement of the new animated Super Mario Bros. movie, the classic live-action film has jumped up to the top Amazon’s best sellers chart. It currently sits at number three on the list, which is pretty impressive for a 28-year-old flick.
The first two films on the cart are the F9 Blu-ray and DVD. I’m surprised that people are still buying regular DVDs these days!
The original movie follows Brooklyn plumbers Mario and Luigi, played by Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, who “get the shock of their lives when they discover a parallel world populated by the intelligent descendants of dinosaurs. It seems they weren't destroyed by a meteor millions of years ago but hurled into another dimension and, now, they have plans to rule our world. It's up to our unlikely heroes to battle the evil King Koopa and his Goomba guards, free the beautiful Princess Daisy and save mankind in this adventure of a lifetime.”
I’ve included the trailer for the film for you below for a reminder of how insane this movie was. What was the last time you watched Super Mario Bros.?

If you haven't seen the '90s Mario movie, well, it's an experience. The Mario Bros., played by Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, live in a world split into two dimensions by the meteor that killed all the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Dennis Hopper players Bowser, but he's not called Bowser, he's called King Koopa, and he's a cross between a T-rex and a human, and... you know what, how about you just watch the movie? You can check out the Morton Jankel Cut, which adds about 20 minutes of new footage, on Internet Archive.
