The A QUIET PLACE Sequel Will Offer a Different Perspective on the Horrific World of Silence
John Krasinski is currently in the process of writing the script for the sequel to A Quiet Place. When previously talking about the new film, he explained that it “doesn’t feel like a sequel” and that it’s more like a ”second book in a series of books”:
“I don’t even see it as a sequel. Emily [Blunt] actually blew my mind by categorizing it the correct way after I pitched it to her. She said, ‘This isn’t a sequel at all — this is the second book in a series of books. It’s a widening of a world.’ And I thought that’s the best way to look at it. It doesn’t feel like a sequel — it’s a continuation of living in that world.”
The actor and director has now shared some additional insight into the film that he’s currently developing and explained to Deadline that one of the things he’s most excited about is offering a whole new perspective on this world that has been created with fresh new characters:
"The idea for it is pretty simple. I’m writing now—I don’t have it fleshed out—but the thought that occurred to me, that really excited me about it, was that most sequels are about the return of a hero or a villain. You take this character that people loved once and you bring them back, and you have to create a new world around them. We have the exact opposite setup. We have the world, and you can drop whoever you want into that world and everyone feels connected to it. The reason I decided to go back, in the end, was this world is so rich, and it’s so much fun to explore. There are so many different things to see now. Everyone else in the world is experiencing this, so I’m curious to see what that looks like from another perspective."
I loved the first film, and it introduced us to a very interesting horrific world where people are forced to live in silence or they will die. It’s a pretty compelling premise, and I can’t wait to see what story he ends up telling in the next chapter.
He hasn’t revealed any story details yet, but he did previously share an idea he had where the sequel would explore who was on the other end of the fires in the first film.
