THE ACOLYTE Fans Launch "Save The Acolyte” Campaign After Disney Canceled It

It’s been a rough few days for fans of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Acolyte with Disney canceling the series after one season and then removing all of its merch from the online Disney store.

While some fans wonder if Disney will erase the series from existence by scrubbing it from Disney+, there’s another group of fans who are trying to save it.

A “Save The Acolyte” (#SaveTheAcolyte) campaign has launched on social media as fans find hope in bringing the show back from the dead. There is also a petition that fans can sign online.

The petition reads: “The Acolyte opened the doors for so many Star Wars fans, new and old, to feel seen. To feel welcomed and accepted by an IP and fandom that hadn’t previously been so for anyone who didn’t check off certain boxes. Not only that, but The Acolyte became a beacon for representation that many fans have felt was lacking in the Star Wars universe for decades.

“With both creators and actors that truly understood the world of Star Wars, The Acolyte quickly became a fan favorite because of the clear passion and love shown in the work, and the drive to give us something new and fresh to fall in love with. New characters with new stories that still existed within the same galaxies we cherished.

“Regardless of the orchestrated review bombing by a small faction of loud trolls, and all of the other obstacles this show had to face straight out the gate, it trended repeatedly throughout and after the show aired. It has a very dedicated fanbase, willing to fight for its continuation. It’s a story that deserves to be told.”

I seriously doubt Disney will change their mind on this, there’s a reason it was canceled. We don’t know exactly why it was canceled so people are only left to speculate. Some cite low numbers and bad reviews, but it seems like the series had a strong enough following to keep going.

It was also recently revealed that Lucasfilm was in the process of prepping Season 2 as recently as last month, so something happened in between then an now. We’ll just have to wait and see if Disney ever releases an official statement.

I’ve included just a few of the things that fans are posting on social media:
