THE ACOLYTE Star Lee Jun-jae Says Qui-Gon Jinn Inspired His Take on Jedi Master Sol

The Acolyte star Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) recently opened up about his character in the series Jedi Master Sol and revealed how he was influenced by Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn when playing the character.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jun-jae said: “I didn’t really want to be influenced by anything outside of the Star Wars world. I definitely was inspired by a lot of the past Jedi Masters and the wonderful actors that played them.”

He went on to say that “one of my favorite characters was Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam Neeson. I really kind of tried to find the connective tissue between him and my character, Master Sol.”

It’s not hard to see that when you watch Jun-Lae play his character. This is actually his first English-speaking performance and he had to learn how to speak it before shooting.

When talking about his character, the actor explained: “He is a Jedi master, but the more I saw the script, I realized that there were more of these humanistic elements to him.

“His emotions are constantly in flux. And also, when he’s in battle, he actually does feel that element of fear. And I think because of that, really created a Sol that was extremely humanistic.

“And she did that with the other characters as well — they all embody such a diversity of emotions, just like regular people. And in each character, you see those elements really clearly.”

The Acolyte is described as “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” The High Republic is set 100 years before the Skywalker Saga begins.

Amandla Steinberg plays a former Padawan and dangerous warrior who is hunting down and killing Jedi. In the story, “An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg).

“As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…."

The Acolyte will consist of eight episodes and it recently premiered Disney+ so you can start watching it now!
