THE BATMAN PART II Co-Writer Mattson Tomlin Calls Sequel "Tremendous," Saying, "The Bar Just Couldn't Be Higher"
The Batman Part II is still over two years away from its theatrical release, but fans are still on the hook, as the first film was so excellent.
We are starting to hear more about the film now, starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, and featuring Matt Reeves behind the camera, as they prepare to go into production, and the script is ready to go.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, the film’s co-writer Mattson Tomlin confirmed that production on the film will begin next year, and he raved that his collaborative process with Reeves and has been "pretty tremendous" thus far.
"It's shooting next year. We're gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn't be higher. It's the sequel to the first one. But also, Matt [Reeves] is like no other.
In the five years now that I've been working with him as closely as I have, I've tried to absorb as much as humanly possible from him, and I'm so grateful for the time that I get to spend with him, because he is a true artist who is operating in a world where sometimes art doesn't get to flourish, and he's trying to make something that really matters.
So to be able to just be on the ride and be part of that process, it's pretty unbelievable, pretty tremendous. I'm psyched for the movie."
We are psyched too, so get to it! I’m looking forward to the next movie. It’s still very far off, but at least we have several other DC and Marvel titles to watch while we wait.
While we don’t have a synopsis for the film set in stone, it’s been reported that the story for the sequel will be at least partially based on Geoff Johns' Batman: Earth One. The first film took a certain amount of inspiration from Vol. 1, so I assume that means the sequel would be more influenced by Volumes 2 and 3.
Batman: Earth One is set in an alternate universe where Bruce Wayne is struggling to find his purpose as Gotham City's protector. With the help of Alfred Pennyworth, a former SAS operative, Bruce embarks on his journey to confront both familiar and new villains along the way.
The story explores the psychology of Batman as he seeks justice in Gotham. Hush is also said to be one of the big villains in the movie.
The movie stars Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and Colin Farrell as Penguin.
The Batman: Part II is set to hit the big screen on October 2, 2026.
