THE BATMAN: PART II Set Videos Show Batman Fighting the GCPD and Reveal New Look at Batmobile’s Blonde Passenger
Batman has a serious GCPD problem. New footage from the set of The Batman: Part II has surfaced from Glasgow, Scotland, giving fans another look at the sequel’s snowy Gotham City action.
This time, Batman is being hunted by the cops, the Batmobile is taking fire, and the mysterious blonde woman riding shotgun is getting plenty of attention.
Filming continued on the snow-covered streets of Glasgow last night, where Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight and his unidentified passenger were spotted making an escape in the Batmobile.
The new footage offers a much closer look at the blonde woman sitting beside Batman. The performers involved in the sequence are likely stunt doubles, but fans were quick to point out that the woman bears a striking resemblance to Scarlett Johansson.
Johansson is part of the cast, but details surrounding her character remain under wraps. Seeing a blonde woman riding alongside Batman obviously raises some interesting questions about how her character could fit into the story.
The bigger surprise, though, is Batman’s relationship with Gotham’s cops. Another set video shows GCPD officers opening fire on the Batmobile as they attempt to close in on Batman and his passenger. The pair manage to escape, but their problems aren’t over. A helicopter also appears to join the pursuit.
That’s quite a shift from where things stood in The Batman. Batman didn’t exactly have a fan club inside the Gotham City Police Department in the 2022 film, but he did have Lieutenant Jim Gordon in his corner.
These cops appear ready to put the Dark Knight down, which makes you wonder what happened between the two movies.
Has Batman been framed for something? Did his association with this mysterious woman put a target on his back? Has Gotham simply decided its masked vigilante has become more trouble than he’s worth?
Whatever is going on, Matt Reeves appears to be going much bigger with the sequel’s action. Production on The Batman was heavily affected by pandemic restrictions, while The Batman: Part II has considerably more freedom to bring Reeves’ version of Gotham to life.
Watching the Batmobile tear through snowy streets with police and a helicopter in pursuit is a pretty cool indication of what he’s cooking up.
Pattinson has also been thinking about what it means to carry on the character’s enormous cinematic history. Earlier this year, he called Batman "the granddaddy of superheroes and the most relevant and important."
"Since I started doing the part, you look into the kind of legacy of it. There’s something about that face that’s a very deep and primal thing. It connects to people, it connects to children, it connects to adults, and then the legacy of the movies as well. I mean, they just got incredibly lucky with how they started and the filmmakers who were attracted to the character."
Pattinson continued, "And so they’ve made so many really, really great Batman movies, and everybody wants to add to the legacy," before adding, "No one wants to be the person who who messes it up."
For the moment, Reeves has his own corner of Gotham to worry about. Reeves wrote the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin, and it stars Pattinson, Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Gil Perez-Abraham, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tyree Henry.
