The BUMBLEBEE Solo Film is Set in the 1980s and New TRANSFORMERS Movie is Set in Ancient Rome
Some new information has surfaced regarding the upcoming Bumblebee solo film that's currently in development at Paramount Pictures. The movie is set to be directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) and it will star Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen).
We knew that the movie would be a prequel story, but now we know when exactly the film will be set. According to Empire Magazine (Via: tfw2005), the movie will take place during the 1980s. They also say that the Bumblebee movie will have "less robots and the main focus is [obviously] Bumblebee". It's also said that movie is being made for younger audiences.
So I guess we aren't getting that R-rated Quentin Tarantino-style Bumblebee film that was pitched to Michael Bay. That would have been interesting!
I actually do like the fact that the movie will be set in the 80s. The 80s is just such a magical time. Especially for those of us who grew up in that era! It also seems appropriate to set the film in the 80s as that when the Transformers were introduced to the world.
In other Transformers news, there's an animated prequel film in the works. It's being developed by the writers of Ant-Man and the story takes place on Cybertron. It will dive into the "origin myth of the Transformers millions of years ago."
There's also a new Transformers movie being developed that takes place in ancient Rome. There are no other details on the project than that, but it sounds like an intriguing concept. I'm curious to see how that story turns out.
