The Cast of THAT THING YOU DO! Reunites Virtually to Promote Tonight's Livestream Commentary

The cast of the classic 1996 film That Thing You Do! will be reuniting tonight for a livestream commentary. To promote that event, stars Tom Everett Scott, Jonathan Schaech, Ethan Embry, and Steve Zahn got together for a little virtual reunion!

This is the first time The Wonders have reunited since the movie was made! The result is a 17 minute interview with Rolling Stone to talk about a lot of things as the reminisce on making the movie, which was written and directed by Tom Hanks.

There’s a lot of great insight provided during the conversation, and at one point Zahn talked about rehearsing with the rest of the cast and how they started with the music before they started working with scenes:

“The cool thing about this was we rehearsed as a band. We didn’t rehearse as a cast. We didn’t do scene work. All I remember is us in a studio together playing these songs over and over and over again because Tom [Hanks] and Gary [Goetzman] didn’t want to dick around when we were shooting and have to orchestrate who was on and who was off. They wanted it to be really authentic.”

Well, it worked! Everything about this film had an authentic feel to it, and that’s one of the reasons why I loved it so much. Prior to signing up for the film, none of these guys had any real musical experience with the instruments they played in the film, but they learned!

They also pay tribute the late Adam Schlesinger, who passed away recently, for coming up with the catchy song “That Thing You Do,” and say as much as they listened to the song, they never really got sick of it.

Watch the full interview below and tune into tonight on YouTube at 7:00pm ET/4:00pm PT for the livestream!
