The Classic '90s Spider-Man Will Reportedly Appear in SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE 2
A new report has surfaced claiming that the classic ‘90s cartoon version of Spider-Man will appear in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. The news comes from That Hashtag Show, which also says that the original voice actor Christopher Daniel Barnes will reprise his role. The actor is in final talks to join the project.
It’s said that the role is small, but there’s no doubt that fans of the ‘90s Spider-Man series will be thrilled to hear the news. The movie will also replicate the style of show and the report claims Barnes’ Spider-Man will appear in a few key scenes before showing up during the film's finale. There’s also a chance that other characters from other Spider-Man projects will show up, but no details were given.
Barnes not only provided the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the ‘90s series, but he also appeared in numerous other Spider-Man animated shows and multiple Spidey games, voicing Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099, Spyder-Knight, Electro, Vulture and more.
The Spider-Verse sequel is being directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, who previously worked on shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and Voltron: Legendary Defender. David Callaham (The Expendables, Wonder Woman 1984) is writing the script.
It’s been reported that the story will be set two years after the events of the first film. It has also been reported that Gwen Stacy and Silk will be involved. There’s been speculation that the story for the sequel might be inspired by the comic book story arc for Spider-Man/Spider-Gwen Sitting in a Tree. The story follows Miles as he is sent to Spider Gwen’s universe to save his dad. This is where the relationship between the two characters really blossoms. Here’s the description of that story:
