THE CROW Reboot with Bill Skarsgård Will Actually Start Shooting This Summer
After several years and a few failed attempts, a feature film reboot of James O'Barr’s The Crow is actually going into production. The film will start shooting this summer in Prague and Germany.
The movie is being directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell). The script was written by Zach Baylin, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for his work on King Richard.
Bill Skarsgård (It) is set to take on the lead role, which is kinda funny because his brother Alexander Skarsgård was rumored to play The Crow almost ten years ago. The movie also stars FKA Twigs (Honeyboy).
Skarsgård will take on the role of Eric Draven and the story follows a man and his fiancée who are assaulted and killed by a gang after their car breaks down. The man is resurrected by a crow and embarks on a dark journey of vengeance on those who took his life and the life of his fiancée.
Director Corin Hardy (The Hallow, The Nun) was previously developing a reboot of The Crow, and he was working on it for years. Jason Momoa was set to star and the movie was about to go into production when the whole thing just fell apart. Prior to that, director Stephen Norrington (Blade) was involved with one reboot, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and actor Luke Evans worked on another.
Director Alex Proyas brought the story to the screen in 1994’s The Crow, which starred the late Brandon Lee, and became a cult classic. That film spawned multiple sequels. Fans of that film have been very vocal about how there’s no need for a reboot. It’ll be interesting to see how well this movie does when it’s actually released.
