THE DEFENDERS Director S.J. Clarkson Is Developing a Marvel Movie for Sony That Might Be MADAME WEB
Director S.J. Clarkson, who helmed episodes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and The Defenders, is developing a secret Marvel project over at Sony Pictures.
The film is said to center on a female character connected to Spider-Man in the Marvel universe, and according to Variety, there’s a strong possibility that the film will be based on Madame Web.
Last year it was reported that Madame Web was actually one of the films in development at the studio. At the time, it was said that Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless were hired to write the script. They wrote the upcoming film Morbius.
Madame Web is an old blind woman who has the power to see the future. She was created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr., and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210, in November 1980. “Known as Cassandra Webb, she is usually depicted as an elderly blind woman suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.”
No actors are attached to the project yet, but the report says there’s a possibility that the studio is looking for an A-list actor to join and then will hire a writer to develop the film around them. It will certainly be interesting to see who the studio ends up casting in the role if this is the character that they are building a film around.
Who could you see taking on the role of Madame Web?
