The Director of CASINO ROYALE Says He Would Only Direct Another James Bond Movie if They Got a New Bond
Martin Campbell is the director who brought us Goldeneye with Pierce Brosnan and Casino Royale with Daniel Craig. Both of those Bond films were great and according to him, he's been offered to direct every James Bond film since. So why hasn't he taken the job? Because he would rather take the franchise in a new direction with a new actor playing 007. That's right, he's not interested in working with Daniel Craig's version of the character again. He tells CinemaBlend:
“I was pretty much offered every one after that. But I just felt that I was [repeating] it. Another control room to blow up; another nutcase taking over the world. There is something refreshing about starting a new Bond.”
I can understand that. There's nothing negative about working with Craig. He just wants to give the character a fresh new start again. I was actually kind of hoping that would be the case for the next Bond film, but Craig is set to return for at least one more film.
If they ever did decide to do something different or reinvent the franchise, I want to see Christopher Nolan take a crack at it! He already said he'd be interested in doing that! But, if they keep asking Campbell to come back to direct these James Bond movies, maybe when they are ready to replace Craig, they will have him come back on board to work on the franchise again.
