The Duffer Brothers Offer New Insight into STRANGER THINGS Season 3 and Reveal There Will Be a Time Jump

The Duffer Brothers have shared a little information with Yahoo about what they are thinking for Season 3 of the hit show Stranger Things. Potential spoilers ahead for Season 2, so be warned!

First, they know where they want the third season to end. However, they’re not sure how they want to get there. This is completely normal, and they’ve even commented before about how even character arcs have changed from when they first thought of their plans to when they actually shot the scenes. Ross Duffer further explains:

We have an end goal; we know where we want to go[.] We’re not quite sure how long it will take to get there, but we do have a plan. And some of it, it’s just because Season 2, we just came into it with so many ideas, and so many of them have been kicked further down the road. So we’re gonna use some of those. In [our Season 2 brainstorm], we figured out what that ending is, but it’ll take more than one year to get there.

Second, there will be a time gap. The kids are getting older and they’re at a point where they look older each year, which can pose challenges to filming a show like this. As Ross tells it:

It will have to be somewhat of a time gap, because the kids are, I mean, they already look so much older[.] No matter what we want to do, I remember when we were originally talking about Season 2, we wanted to just start it in Christmas and just go from there, but then we realized the kids are just too old, so we had to jump forward. Even the latest trailer, we had to loop a line with [Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas]. He sounds like a man now. It creeps me out. He’s going to be driving to set next year.

When talking about the aging actors, Matt Duffer had this to say:

It seems very wrong[.] The minute I see Caleb drive up, I’m probably going to pass out.

Of course, they’ve already confirmed that Erica is returning as well. What do you want to see happen in Season 3?
