The First STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Photo Features 2 Characters Exploring a Strange New World
CBS has released the first official photo from their upcoming new series Star Trek: Discovery. It features Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham and Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou. It looks like they are exploring a strange new world.
Without the look of the Star Trek uniforms, the image almost looks like it could be from a Star Wars movie. I'm surprised the first look didn't feature the characters in uniform on the bridge of their ship to give the first look of the series a more Star Trek vibe.
EW points out that First Officer Michael Burnham has what looks like an old-school communicator similar to those featured on the original Star Trek series on her belt. She also has a satchel that looks like it’s holding one of the classic Tricorders.
The cast for the series includes Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Doug Jones as science officer Saru, Anthony Rapp as fellow science officer Stamets, Terry Serpico as Starfleet admiral Anderson, Maulik Pancholy as chief medical officer Nambue, Sam Vartholomeos as junior Starfleet officer Connor, Mary Wiseman as Cadet Tilly, James Frain as Sarek, astrophysicist and father of Spock, Chris Obi as Klingon leader T’Kuvma, Mary Chieffo as L’Rell, a Klingon commander, Shazad Latif as Lieutenant Tyler, Rekha Sharma as Commander Landry, Kenneth Mitchell as Kol, Clare McConnell as Dennas, Damon Runyan as Ujilli, and Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd.
Star Trek: Discovery is set on a new ship and will follow new characters who embark on new adventurous missions while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.
Star Trek: Discovery will take place before the original Star Trek series, and it's set to premiere in May on CBS before going to CBS All Access.
