The James Cameron-Produced Terminator Film Officially Titled TERMINATOR: DARK FATE and Release Date Confirmed
About a month ago James Cameron said that the working title for his upcoming Terminator film project was Terminator: Dark Fate. He explained at the time:
“We're calling it Dark Fate. So Terminator: Dark Fate. At least that’s our working title right now.”
Well, that “working title” has now become the official title of the film. So, I guess they couldn’t think of a better one. It has also been revealed that the release date of the film has been confirmed for November 1st, 2019. That puts the movie up against the Charlie’s Angels reboot. I know what movie I’ll be seeing that weekend!
Terminator: Dark Fate is being helmed by Deadpool director Tim Miller and it’s set to feature Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton reprising their roles. They will be joined by a few new leads played by Mackenzie Davis and Natalia Reyes, with Gabriel Luna as the new Terminator. James Cameron offered some additional details, saying:
“I said, ‘I can’t be involved in this film at all if Arnold [Schwarzenegger] is not in it.’ ... Fans are [also] going to want to see [Linda Hamilton] again, and they’re going to want to see the real Sarah Connor and what time and dealing with these tragic futures has done to her. How it's hardened her even more, but in a way that made her much stronger. Maybe less likable, but stronger. And ultimately she becomes a really important character in kind of passing the baton to the new characters that come into it. It’s a very female-centric film, which I’m glad Tim [Miller] embraced those themes.”
It was later revealed that Cameron was very involved with the development of the film. So, he wasn’t sitting on the sidelines, the movie is going to have his fingerprints all over it.
Terminator: Dark Fate is said to be the first film in a new trilogy and it will also serve as a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It was already reported that the movie will ignore Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator: Salvation, and Terminator Genisys.
I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
