The JUDGE DREDD: MEGA CITY ONE Series Will Include "Dark Fantasy Elements"

As many of you already know, there's a new Judge Dredd series currently in development called Judge Dredd: Mega City One. We've got a long way to go before the series is released, but they are actively in talks with Karl Urban to try and get him on board. It would be so awesome if they were able to work that out!

Today we have a little update on the series from Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley, who offers a tease of what we can expect. When talking to SFX magazine, he reveals that the series could be different from the film adaptations of Judge Dredd. He explains:

"Dark fantasy elements are one area that would be great to explore. The show will combine the macabre with the insane and the light-hearted. It's a big place, after all, with 400 million stories to tell."

We've never seen a more fantasy-based Dredd in the films, so that would certainly be interesting. It's definitely something I'd love to see! He goes on to talk about how long-form storytelling will be better for Dredd, explaining:

"Long-form storytelling makes showing Mega-City One and its inhabitants much easier. Trying to fit all of that into a two-hour movie is very hard."

As for when we will actually see the series, we've still got a good amount of time to wait because they are early in the development process. When asked about the timeframe, Kingsley said:

"My best guess is that it's at least two years away. But we're so early in the process that things could happen a bit faster, or much more slowly."

It'll eventually happen, though! I'm excited about this series and I think the team behind it are going to end up giving us something pretty cool. Here's the description of the series that was previously released.

"The show is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. It will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them."

I can't wait to see how this turns out!
