THE LEGEND OF AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER Art Reveals the Adult Gang and a Mysterious New Airbender
It’s pretty crazy to think that Avatar: The Last Airbender wrapped up its run on Nickelodeon back in 2008. What started as a beloved animated series grew into a massive franchise that keeps expanding years later.
From The Legend of Korra continuing the Avatar legacy to the upcoming series Avatar: Seven Havens, the world of bending keeps finding new ways to pull fans back in.
Now the next chapter is almost here with The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, and a newly surfaced leak has given fans their first real glimpse at the adult versions of Team Avatar.
Promotional images that recently appeared through Target marketing materials for the upcoming Paramount film have revealed updated looks at Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko years after the original series finale.
The images show the legendary crew all grown up, offering a clearer idea of what their lives look like after their victory over the Fire Nation.
Alongside the familiar faces, the group shot includes someone fans have never seen before. The mystery character appears with the same arrow tattoos worn by Aang, strongly hinting that he might be another airbender.
At this point, there’s almost no information about who he is or what role he’ll play in the story, but the tattoos alone have sparked plenty of speculation among longtime fans.
The film itself has already had an interesting journey before even releasing. The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender was originally planned as a theatrical release, but Paramount later shifted course and decided to debut the movie directly on Paramount+. The animated film is now set to premiere on the streaming service on October 9.
That decision didn’t sit well with many fans who hoped to see Aang’s return on the big screen. The film’s director, Lauren Montgomery, also weighed in this week and shared her thoughts on the situation, clearly hoping audiences will eventually get the chance to watch it in theaters.
“The movie is amazing!!! That might not mean much coming from the director. I might have some bias, but I feel the need to put that out there. This movie deserves to be seen on a big screen!”
Even with the new cast stepping into these iconic roles, the movie is bringing the original crew back into the spotlight. Eric Nam voices Aang, Jessica Matten plays Katara, Roman Zaragoza takes on Sokka, Dionne Quan voices Toph, and Steven Yeun steps into the role of Zuko.
The supporting lineup also includes some seriously notable names. Dave Bautista, Ke Huy Quan, and Taika Waititi are all part of the project, though their characters remain under wraps for now.
Between the reveal of the adult Gaang and the appearance of what looks like a new airbender, it’s clear this story plans to expand the mythology of the Avatar world in some exciting ways.
